Week Two Design Project

This week’s design project Dora and I did was to design a typeface. Dora took a more artistic approach creating her own unique and original font. Whereas I tried to create something of a mix of some of my favorite san serif fonts. I know that there are still a lot of things I need to fix on these but the week is over and here it is. I created Roman, Light, Medium, and Bold for this. Maybe one day when I’m all done fixing the little details it’ll become famous like Helvetica or Verdana. But hopefully not like Comic Sans or Papyrus.

Holiday Animation

At work I was asked to create a short holiday animation for all the employees to see. Basically a little holiday e-card. It was a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip that inspired the idea for it. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t have any sound effects since it was designed specifically for the workplace. But I had fun with it and hope you enjoy. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Weekly Design Project – Retro Poster

Last week Dora and I went to Salt Lake Design Week. I decided I need to design more outside of work to keep my creativity up and to improve my skills. I figure the more I’m designing, the stronger my weaknesses will become.

We bought a book earlier this year that has 80 or so different design projects to help keep you creative. So we decided to set a goal to do one of these projects a week. And we will do it together and make it a sort of friendly competition.

This first project we did was to take a vintage ad and make it modern. Well, I kinda strayed from this one a little and decided to mix a modern ad/poster design and incorporate a vintage album cover design. I love the Coke Side of Life posters and decided to create one similar to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon album cover. I had fun with this and think there is room for improvement but the overall concept fit together nicely. It was a fun quick project.

Peterson Film Festival

This Christmas break I am making my family participate in a Family Film Festival. It’s called the “50 Cents Film Festival” and is presented by Peterson Productions and Swedish Pancakes. Mmm…I love swedish pancakes. The festival will be similar to a 48 Hour Film Fest. But instead of 48 hours we have a week. Another requirement will be that all video must be filmed with a flip video camera since we all received one for Christmas last year.

So to introduce the festival I created this short little video starring my beautiful wife. I had fun creating all the titles for it and the film festival logos as well. Dora designed the awesome poster to go along with everything. I think it will be a lot of fun and can’t wait to see what my family will come up with.

Washington Getaway

This last summer Dora and I able to go visit my sister Joella in her Washington home. It was great fun. We went whale watching around the San Juan islands and saw Orca Whales. Spent a day in Seattle. Then hung out in Olympia where my sister lives. It was great fun and I made this little film to remember it. Enjoy and thanks Joella.

The Wedding

A few weeks ago I got married. My sister in law took our original engagement pictures and they turned out great. But they just didn’t match the style we were going for. So Dora and I decided to go take some pictures on our own. So we went a few places and I set the camera up on a tripod and snapped our photos with a wireless camera remote. This was the image we used for our invites.

I also made a video to display during our reception. Most of the filming was done by me. And some was done by my sister when we went to visit her in Washington.
