Italy 2012 – Taormina

While in Italy we were able to go down to Sicily and visit the beautiful city of Taormina. Over the years this has become among my favorite places in all of Italy. It is an ancient Greek town that was built atop a steep mountain/hill. The views of the sea and Mt Etna are just amazing. Although it was very hazy around Mt Etna the day we were there and we couldn’t see it. But when you look out the other direction you can see the straight of Messina and mainland Italy. I love this city.

Italy 2012 – Saracena

The next place where I had to translate was in Saracena. Which happens to be right next to Castrovillari where I lived for a few months. So I was pretty excited to go back to there. It was interesting to see what things had changed and what was still the same. I enjoyed seeing everything there, I just wish I could have gotten a hold of some people I know there to visit.

Italy 2012 – Corletto Perticara

One of the reasons we went to Italy was so that I could translate for my Mom’s cousin while she researched family history there. One of the places we had to go to for that was the small town of Corletto Perticara. It was a town that is not accustomed to tourists. I guess you could say that it was the real Italy where the old men play scopa in the bars and laundry is hung on a line across an alleyway.

Italy 2012 – Pompeii

A few weeks ago my wife and I returned home from a trip to Italy. Of course I took all kinds of pictures. It would be way too difficult to cut them down to just a few photos to fit into a blog post. So instead I will be posting the top photos from each city we visited.

Today’s post is all about Pompeii. The ruins there were much bigger than I had anticipated. I don’t know why, I knew they had the whole city preserved. It was fun to walk the ancient streets and see where all the chariots had carved there path in the cobblestone. Yet it was a little creepy at the same time to see skeletons laying around as Mt Vesuvius towered above us.

Italy Book

In July 2010 I ended my study abroad in Switzerland and traveled down to Italy where I met up with my sisters, Joella and Natalia, to take a 2 week giro d’Italia. While there we decided we should make a book of our pictures so we can remember it. Here we are almost two years later and I have finally done it (thanks to a little bit of a push from my sister). It was a fun trip down memory lane and I can’t wait to go back to Italy again. My wife also decided that we need to make a book about our memories of Switzerland together. So that will be another project coming up that is two years late. Here are a few samples of the photos and layout for the Italy book.

Hawaiian Cinemagraph

Dora and Christal Cinemagraph

Recently I discovered a website that I thought was really cool. It’s cinemagraphs.com. The thing I really like about this is that these are not just your typical animated gifs. These instead are great photographs that have subtle movements isolated to only one area which places an emphasis on the subject. So I thought I’d give this a try. This image is not necessarily the best photo, but this was more for me to learn the technical aspects of this. Thanks to Christal and Dora for being my models for this scenic cinemagraph in Hawaii.

Hawaii Infographic

Recently Dora and I took a trip to visit her sister and brother-in-law Christal and Daniel in Hawaii. It was a very fun trip with lots of things to do and see and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the scenery. And of course take lots of photos. This is an infographic I made of a few trip statistics and all the things we did/saw. I’m so glad Daniel and Christal let go visit and stay with them. They were wonderful hosts. Photos and video to come soon. Click here to view the PDF.

A Cars Chrismas

This is a quick film I did with a few of my family members over the Christmas break. We put on our own family film festival and split into four teams and each created its own film. We each only had one week to come up with an idea, film it, and edit. Then we all got together one night and laughed at everyone’s awesome films. They all turned out great and it was fun to do. Thanks to everyone that participated. Here is my team’s short film.
